Sitting here waiting for the first snow storm to hit of the year I thought it was time to post an update. As of right now I haven’t moved forward with anything. I have no plan because I really don’t know where to start up again. All my labs are all set to go, but getting that extra push to start again is becoming non-existent. Maybe it is the holidays? What material do I use, where do I start, do I want to start? Throw into the mix that my wife found out three weeks ago that she is pregnant – the pressure is on. There is no way I am going to be able to dedicate my time to studying once a newborn is here with a two year old running around. There is going to be very little lab time. Jake is a energy filled boy, he is non-stop and always on the go.

I have Narbik’s I can re-attend and my IPexpert bootcamps. I just don’t know if I want to leave home for a week at this point. With no one having even passed the current lab, I am not even sure how to prepare for it! Maybe I just need to sit down and chat with someone to see how they feel I should proceed. Maybe the wife will just threaten me with utter annihilation if I don’t start studying again soon…

    Congrats on the pregnancy!
v4 isn’t that hard. Get back on it man, you’re probably not far from getting through it. I sat it the other day and was really worried as I’d heard no-one had passed. I can happily say I didn’t really see anything that wasn’t in Narbiks workbooks and other material i’ve seen. There really wasn’t that much complicated setup at all. I wasn’t prepared so failed, but came out smiling anyway as my first look at the lab had confirmed it’s very easily do-able. I mean seriously! OEQs were fair, troubleshooting was kind of fun and the config wasn’t that difficult. If i’d had a bit more versatile experience at a few things, i’d have been able to finish the exam with hours to spare. I think the novelty of the format takes a little getting used to but i’m going for a retake just after Xmas and am confident i’ll get it then. Look at the new blueprint for what it is, although it’s bigger than v3, it’s still not that bad. IPv6 is piece o cake, troubleshooting isn’t a subject so take that out, then roll Optimise The Network, Net Services and Net Security into one section and you’re good to go!

I feel for you man, but you haven’t failed until you stop trying! In my opinion, the R&S CCIE just got a lot more valuable – rise to it!

congratulations, and I think if my wife/girfriend were pregnant thats probably the biggest motivation to get the CCIE over and done with….

Imagine how far it would go in providing for them and at least you’d be a happier husband with more time for them….other than that I agree with the previous comment.

The exam is very much doable and the vendor material out there is quite good to cover the new blueprint. Personally I’ll be going back in March, Im taking some time off studies to catch up on projects….don’t give up …. I know a 6 time trying ccie who told me at some point it became sort of fun to just keep going back:-) and was a bit disappointed when he passed:-) yeah right:-)…he now has 3 ccie’s and passed the first time doing the SP and security….(the new blueprint)..

Please retake the boot camp before attending the new v4. I have added bunch of stuff to the lectures, roughly about 5 more hours.
you have paid for it, take advantage of the new boot camp, you won’t be sorry.
