Cat 3550: SMI or EMI Image?
I am having a hard time trying to figure what code I should be running…I got a 3550 to play with. The blueprint says 12.2 IP Services, but on cisco.com you cannot download any 12.2 IP services IOS images that are EMI. The latest EMI I can pull is 12.1(22) (c3550-i5k2l2q3-mz.121-22.EA10b.bin).
I can pull 12.2(46) IP Services, but when I boot it does not show as EMI
Any help would be great!
*UPDATE* Well it appears I have figured this one out. Apparently, Cisco in all their wisdom decided to change the name of EMI to “IP Services” …so I guess the 12.2(46) IP Services code I got really IS EMI … bah. I wish Cisco would make up their damn mind with these image names. Either change it ALL or don’t change it at all… particuarly irritating is the stuff like ipservicesk9….etc…. wtf do they use “k9″ and other codes MIXED with the new names? ugh
Maybe somebody will learn from my mistake:

That is the correct image you have loaded up on the 3550′s. That is what shows for the EMI on those.
Cisco IOS Software, C3550 Software (C3550-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(25)SEE4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
K9 stands for 3DES/SSH. You can get an ipservices image without it as well.
Joe,
Just bought a couple of 3550′s. This is the current IOS:

I’m new at this and just starting to build a home lab for my CCNA training. Should I download/upgrade the same IOS that you mentioned above?
I have two of these (or will when the 2nd arrives) and have also picked up 2 2620XM With cards WIC 1DSU-T1 V2, WIC 1DSU-T1, WIC 1T (still waiting for them to arrive also).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

I am not sure how much layer 3 switching is on the CCNA, but you will want the EMI image if you can get a hold of it.
