I finally finished going through the complete 5 day video bootcamp from IPexpert. Boy, it sure was a good and very educational ride! Basically, my plan was to sit through the entire bootcamp, paying very close attention, and taking very good notes before jumping into any labs. I mean, I figure the labs are going to kick my ass as it is, I might as well at least go through the videos first.
As far as the video’s I was very happy with the content. Of course, there was a lot of stuff I do know from experience and previous studies, but there was a lot of stuff that I am not so experienced with, or that I just plain didn’t even know existed!
I ordered the cables I need to finish my lab on like the 29th and was starting to wonder where the hell they are…turns out the place I got them from is in Hong Kong hehe….gonna take a while, but hopefully I will get them soon.
I know which areas I am weak in, and that are going to really hurt when I actually get to the IPexpert lab books. Namely, Multicast, QoS, perhaps BGP depending on how crazy it gets…..also I definitely need mucho practice on Policy routing, and just in general all the topics that have to do with writing ACLs then tying them to policies and such. I understand it fine when I read it, but I need to DO it. I just got done reading through the CCIE R/S Exam Cert guide chapters on QoS again…boy they really made a lot more sense, after having watched the IPexpert VODs. It also helped to not be pretty much burned out on reading it this time around. Last time I read those chapters I was ripping through the book to prepare for my written exam.
I guess the next step is to just face the music and start plowing into labs. I will probably be spending a lot of time on my own equipment, but like I said there are certain things I won’t be able to do right now (Not all my gear runs 12.4 code, and I only have 2950 switches). I will likely get some rack time from Proctor Labs. I also am still not sure what in the world to do with my backbone routers to simulate what they do in the videos…I mean the guy is taking like 500+ routes in haha…nice. I guess in the meantime (until I get my cables from Hong Kong) I will probably hit up some of the exercises in the VOD on my home equipment the best I can, and keep reading.

A good place as well. Although they only have one rack for IPExpert, you need to schedule atleast a week out.
Hey buddy!
You´re the man! Finished already?! I´m still struggling my way!
Best of lucky on your labs!
Let me know if I can assist you in anything!

I would look at the Volume I technology labs before doing any full scale labs. Its better to get a grounding in these after the VoD, maybe sprinkled in with some of the Volume II labs as well.
Hey have any of you guys gone through the “Proctor Labs eBook” PDF on the BLS??? You think I should start there, or with Volume 1? It looks similar to like a volume 1
I would go to Volume 1… Proctor Labs ebook seens to be very nice, but if I would put Volume Number on it, it would be Volume 1 1/2, after Volume 1, and before Volume 2… BUt… that´s just my opinion…
I really liked the Vol.1 Labs… very nice, and before watching the videos very challenge also!
What do you think?!

I have not dug in yet…I flipped through, and noticed the first part of it is very switch related…considering I have no 3550/3560 I think this would cause some problems…my only option is to get some rack time I guess
Alright, it’s go time! I am off work tomorrow, so I just booked my first proctor labs session spur of the moment…thats right boys midnight to 8:00 AM ….burning the midnight oil!
I’m a bit nervous!
