Joe,

Just bought a couple of 3550's. This is the current IOS:

Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) C3550 Software (C3550-I5Q3L2-M), Version 12.1(8)EA1c, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

cisco WS-C3550-48 (PowerPC) processor (revision D0) with 65526K/8192K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID CHK0625V2TY
Last reset from warm-reset
Bridging software.
Running Layer2/3 Switching Image

Ethernet-controller 1 has 12 Fast Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interfaces

Ethernet-controller 2 has 12 Fast Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interfaces

Ethernet-controller 3 has 12 Fast Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interfaces

Ethernet-controller 4 has 12 Fast Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interfaces

Ethernet-controller 5 has 1 Gigabit Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface

Ethernet-controller 6 has 1 Gigabit Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface

48 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
2 Gigabit Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)

The password-recovery mechanism is enabled.
32K bytes of flash-simulated non-volatile configuration memory.
Base ethernet MAC Address: 00:0A:41:28:27:80
Motherboard assembly number: 73-5701-06
Power supply part number: 34-0967-01
Motherboard serial number: CAT06250KYM
Power supply serial number: LIT062201TR
Model revision number: D0
Motherboard revision number: C0
Model number: WS-C3550-48-EMI
System serial number: CHK0625V2TY
Configuration register is 0x10F

I'm new at this and just starting to build a home lab for my CCNA training. Should I download/upgrade the same IOS that you mentioned above?

I have two of these (or will when the 2nd arrives) and have also picked up 2 2620XM With cards WIC 1DSU-T1 V2, WIC 1DSU-T1, WIC 1T (still waiting for them to arrive also).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Hi,

I'm not sure what your name is, but I read your recent post and felt the need to write you. Your blog really struck home because both of my parents are in the their 60s now and unfortunately, in life you can never really predict the future. I know you and your family are going through a very rough time, but lean on each other for strenghth and cherish the moments that you shared with your fathers. Even though your father may not be here now, he lives through you. Definitely, take the time to spend it with your family as you go through this tough moment, but know things will get better one day. The CCIE is a long and lonely journey at times, and requires a lot of sacrifice. However, in the end, I believe it's worth that sacrifice. If you can, when you are ready, use this experience as motivation and God bless your family and I hope you heal soon.
